We continued the birthday celebration and visit with my parents with a weekend trip to Berlin, Germany. Berlin is an easy train ride from Warsaw. So, we hopped on the train and we were off on our adventure. We had a great time in Berlin and had amazing, sunny and warm weather! We tried our fair share of German food - sausages, wienerschnitzel, spaetzle and the famous Berliner (beer mixed with raspberry syrup....aka a glass of deliciousness)! Our hotel was in a great location so we were able to walk everywhere and take in the city. We learned a lot about the city by taking a walking tour. It was really fun and interesting to learn all about the city's history. In a lot of ways it was remarkably similar to Poland's - World Wars, Communism, etc. I especially liked learning more about the Berlin wall and what life was like during this time. On my actual birthday, we celebrated by seeing James Taylor in concert in a cool and initimate stadium. It was a fantastic concert with the best company I could ask for! We spent our final day visiting a few of the 100+ museums in Berlin and enjoying a wonderful dinner alfresco. Sunday we bid adieu to this wonderful city and jumped back on the train for our trip home. We had another great weekend exploring Europe and it was even better to share it with my parents!
My parents left the next day which is always so bittersweet...sad to see them go, but so happy to have had such a wonderful visit with them! Thanks mom and dad for making another trip and for sharing in my birthday celebration. We love you!
